Tinos, the holy island that is home to the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary, also offers secluded beaches, quaint little mountain villages and, in the area around the village of Volakas, a surreal landscape of gigantic boulders. The island is dotted with a thousand white geormetrically carved dovecotes and stone has been artistically used by the villagers to terrace their hills, pave their walkways and build their walls. The local food is fresh and the views are beautiful and in Tinos physical and spiritual beauty are in harmony. You can get to Tinos from Athens normal ferry (about 4.5 hours) or fast boat (about 3 hours).
