An unusual island by virtue of its geology, its coastline lovely beaches and without the crowds that are found in the more popular Cyclades Islands. Milos is worth a visit if you are looking for good beaches, authentic villages and uncrowded ancient sites. A short walk down the hill is the ancient site of Melos, with its Dorian walls, fragments of column and remains of a Roman amphitheatre. This is where the Venus de Milo statue was found There are some early Christian catacombs near Milos and below this is the tiny fishing settlement of Klima - no beach but lots of charm. Good for families and those wanting an "authentic" island.
